WHAT IS THE MATERIALS BANK?

The Materials Bank is a teaching resource for FET college lecturers. It includes learning and assessment activities which can be downloaded for use in your classroom. The downloaded materials can be adapted and edited to suit your needs. The activities were written for sector-based qualifications offered by colleges before the introduction of the NCVs.  However there is a great deal of overlap between the two. Check the outcomes to see how these activities and ideas match the outcomes of your curriculum.

The Materials Bank is NOT an online textbook or online learning programme. It is an evolving resource from which to select materials that are suitable for the learning programme that you have developed.

See About the Materials Bank for details on design principles; methodology; assessment, OBE myths and much more.

WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?

Its purpose is to:

- lighten your workload while making the transition to OBE
- give examples of outcomes-based activities
- add to the range of materials that you are using in your classroom
- provide a site where you and other lecturers can share ideas and activities which have worked well for you.

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO ADAPT AN ACTIVITY

Once you have selected which materials you would like to use, we would encourage you to adapt the materials to your context e.g. lengthen or shorten activities; use different examples and choose different texts. See the Example of an Adapted Activity for ideas on how to do this.

SUBMIT YOUR OWN MATERIALS

We would encourage you to submit activities which have worked well for you and your learners so that others can learn from you. This website is a work in progress which will be constantly updated and improved with increased usage, so your feedback is important.
